The Orange County Sheriff’s Department offers an amazing opportunity for members of the general public to get an inside, in-depth view at the operations of the OCSD. The Citizens Academy is a nine week information class that meets once per week for three hours, generally at the Sheriff’s Orange County Regional Training Academy in Tustin, with a few field trips. Class topics will include investigations, K-9 unit demonstrations, forensics, tours of the OC Jail and Coroner’s office and a patrol car ride-along. If you are interested, the OCSD is now accepting applications for Citizens Academy Class 3! Classes will be held on Thursday evenings from 6 – 9 PM from July 10 until August 28, 2014. Note that the Citizen Academy is intended for personal growth only, and does not qualify students for a career in law enforcement. Space is limited, and successful completion of a background check is required. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the class is full and are available here. If you would like information about the Citizen Academy, please contact Community Programs and Services at (714) 647-1848
