Irvine Housing Development Lets Kids Design Their Own Park

With so much new home construction going on in our neck of the woods, we thought this was something that Rancho Mission Viejo might want to emulate: allowing the neighborhood kids to design their local pocket parks!  In this case, the New Home Company allowed the children of families who had bought one of the company’s homes in Lambert Ranch (in Irvine) to participate in a focus group that dictated the design of the neighborhood park.  From an OC Register article (PDF):

In October 2012, the tract’s developer, The New Home Company, invited children whose parents had bought a house, but had not yet moved in, to weigh in on what should be included in the neighborhood park’s playground to be.  After months of construction, the playground at Hidden Park opened Saturday in the foothill neighborhood of Lambert Ranch.
That’s a clever idea!
