I-5/Ortega Highway Construction Updates for the Week of January 6th

Lots of activity planned for this week.  First, here’s a summary of what’s been going on, courtesy of Caltrans:

  • On Thursday, January 2, crews reconfigured the I-5 southbound off-ramp at Ortega Highway to one lane. This configuration is expected to last until the realignment of Ortega Highway into Del Obispo Street is completed.  Currently, the off-ramp has three lanes at the intersection – two dedicated left-turn lanes and one dedicated right-turn lane. The new configuration will provide only one lane to make both left and right-turns onto Ortega Highway.
  • On Friday, January 3, crews performed a stem and soffit pour on the south half of the Ortega Highway bridge over the I-5 freeway. In the coming weeks, crews will perform a deck pour, another exciting milestone as work to reconstruct the bridge continues.
  • Pile driving is expected to begin in late-January / early-February on the I-5 southbound off-ramp at Ortega Highway. Pile driving is necessary to reconstruct the off-ramp and will last intermittently for approximately one month. Please be advised that this activity may be loud and disruptive due to vibration and pounding.
