In a post almost exactly one year ago, we answered the question “What is Rancho Ortega?“ In that post, we tried to answer the question who we are, but we also took pains to explain who we are not. We mentioned that we are not affiliated with any of the businesses or entities that use some combination of the words “Rancho” and “Ortega” in their names. In fact, we specifically wondered about one Rancho Ortega:
According to a sign on the shoulder of Ortega Highway on the east edge of town, there is apparently a historic place called “Rancho Ortega.” It is supposed to be one half mile up Toyon Drive, but we’ve twice tried to find the actual property with no luck. Whether it exists or not, we are not the historic Rancho Ortega.
One of the owners of the Rancho Ortega ranch — it does exist — has reached out to us and kindly asked us to make it clear that we are not affiliated with their property. You see, the owners of this property have done more for San Juan Capistrano than yours truly could ever hope to accomplish. They did not want anyone to confuse the ramblings of old Don Juan Ortega for their opinions or writings. If you know who they are, you will recognize that theirs is a fair request and one we are happy to oblige.
We will make a note on our home page for future readers, but we want to reiterate that the writings of Don Juan Ortega on the Rancho Ortega Blog are the personal views of the author. This blog is not authored by nor does it have any affiliation whatsoever with any other person, place or entity using the name “Rancho Ortega,” including the historic Rancho Ortega ranch located in San Juan Capistrano.
