OCTA Hosting I-5/Pico Open House Tomorrow

OCTA is hosting an open house tomorrow for the public to learn more about the upcoming I-5/Avenida Pico improvement project.  From OCTA:

OCTA Plans Open Houses in South County

The public will have two opportunities to learn about upcoming I-5 improvements

ORANGE – Open houses are scheduled in San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano for the San Diego Freeway (I-5) improvement project that will extend the carpool lanes in both directions between San Juan Creek Road and Avenida Pico, as well as rebuild the Pico interchange.

The Orange County Transportation Authority and Caltrans are expecting to break ground on the project in January in San Juan Capistrano. The Avenida Pico interchange work is slated to start late next year. The $275 million project is being paid for with Measure M, the voter-approved half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements, and should be completed in early 2016.

Residents can ask questions and get information about the project at the open houses, which are both from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the following locations:

·       Thursday, Nov. 7 at St. Andrews by the Sea Church, 2001 Calle Frontera in San Clemente

·       Thursday, Nov. 14 at the San Juan Capistrano Community Center, 25925 Camino Del Avion

When the project is finished, drivers will find continuous carpool lanes on I-5 between North Orange County and just south of Pico. And Pico itself will be widened to nine lanes beneath the freeway, providing relief to an area that sees significant congestion. The project also will add bicycle lanes in both directions on Pico beneath the freeway.

Information on the project is available at www.octa.net/I-5pico

Project information also is on Facebook and can be found by searching for OC I-5 South County.

More information about this project is available from the OCTA project web site here.
