I-5 Widening Project Releases Environmental Assessment

Readers of this blog are certainly aware of the I-5/Ortega Highway interchange project.  You may not know all of the other South County improvement projects in the works as well, and some of them are just as substantial as Ortega.  The I-5 improvement project between the 73 toll road and El Toro Road is one such project.  OCTA and Caltrans have just released the initial program study and environmental assessment for this project.  According to OCTA, the “document has assessed a wide range of topics including, but not limited to: air quality, noise, natural environment, community impacts, visual impacts, relocation impacts, cultural resources, water quality, floodplain impacts and historical resources.”

According to OCTA and Caltrans, “the proposed project will add general purpose lanes in each direction on I-5 between Avery Parkway and Alicia Parkway, extend the 2nd High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane from Alicia Parkway to El Toro Road, reestablish existing auxiliary lanes and construct new auxiliary lanes, and improve several existing on- and off-ramps.  The project is currently in the environmental phase.”
