Ladera Ranch Civic Council Meeting on Monday, July 22

The Ladera Ranch Civic Council will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, July 22, 2013 at 7 PM at the Santa margarita Water District Building on Antonio Parkway.  According to the Civic Council, Monday’s agenda will include:


The Council will feature a presentation from Steve Nelson on the closing of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) and will be available to answer questions from the public.

Benjamin Drive Speed Limit

At the request of the Council, the Orange County Traffic Committee agendized the option to lower the speed limit of Benjamin Drive from 45 MPH to 40 MPH. The results will be reported at Monday’s public Council meeting. Furthermore, the Council worked with the County to add a crosswalk with a posted sign and innovative speed reduction markings to attempt to legal lower the speed limit by first lowering the actual speed of traffic.

Homeless Shelter in Ladera Ranch?

The Orange County Public Works board discussed the options for where to place a homeless shelter within unincorporated areas. The County is required by law to zone land in the unincorporated communities for transitional housing and there will be a report on the results at Monday’s public meeting.

If you intend to run for one of the three seats on the Civic Council that are up for re-election this year, the deadline for submitting a candidate statement is tonight (Friday, July 19).  More information on that process is available here.  If you are interested in being appointed to the Civic Council’s Task Force on Governance (i.e., cityhood), the deadline for submitting that application is August 9, 2013.  More information on that process is available here.  We’ve also talked about the Civic Council’s cityhood initiative quite a bit, for example here and here.
