Make it your Mission to Experience San Juan!

Nobody is looking forward to the traffic congestion that will result from the Ortega/I-5 interchange construction.  But out-of-towners need not let that deter them from visiting downtown San Juan Capistrano.  Metrolink trains are not affected by the construction and the train station is conveniently located in the heart of town, walking distance to shops, restaurants, historic Los Rios Street and beautiful Mission San Juan Capistrano.  Says OCTA:

It’s never been easier to visit the birthplace of Orange County! With Caltrans’ I-5/Ortega Highway Interchange Improvement Project underway, Metrolink offers the best and most convenient way to explore the town. And with a $10 weekend Metrolink pass, you can not only visit San Juan Capistrano, but anywhere along southern California from Oceanside to Los Angeles!

But it gets better.  Plan your trip for June 8, 2013 from the Santa Ana station and be eligible for more prizes and discounts:

Bring a non-perishable food item donation for Second Food Harvest to spin the prize wheel for a chance to win FREE Metrolink tickets and other prizes! Enjoy FREE refreshments provided by Nothing Bundt Cake and live music by Headshine. Then take Metrolink to San Juan Capistrano for a fun-filled day in Historic Downtown. And, show your Metrolink ticket and receive the following discounts (June 8 only):

  • ½ price admission to The Mission
  • FREE meal at Sarducci’s with the purchase of a regular meal
  • ½ price admission to Zoomar’s Petting Zoo
  • Buy one, get one FREE coffee or dessert at Rick’s Café (inside the movie theatre)

Even if you can’t make it June 8th in Santa Ana, local San Juan Capistrano merchants and businesses are happy to extend a discount to Metrolink riders.  There is a list of many partner promotions and discounts at this PDF.  And you can always show your Metrolink ticket and save at the Mission!

We have had the privilege of witnessing the thoughtfulness behind the Ortega/I-5 construction project and its mitigation efforts.  From day one, there has been a deliberate and collaborative effort by Caltrans, OCTA and the City of San Juan Capistrano (with exceptional leadership and unity from its business community) to offset the adverse economic impacts of this construction project.  This Metrolink program (and the accompanying publicity) by OCTA is one important piece of that larger effort, and we applaud it.  Support local businesses in San Juan Capistrano.  OCTA and Metrolink make it easy and painless.

Oh, and whoever came up with that slogan “Make it your mission to experience San Juan!” is one clever copy-writer.
