Support San Juan Capistrano’s Adopted Marines

There is a strong bond of support and appreciation between San Juan Capistrano and the United States armed forces, and in particular the City’s adopted Marines of 1st Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment (1/11).  Show your support for these heroes by taking part in a car wash on May 18th to benefit the Marines of 1/11.  And as if our Marines (and all those who serve our country) don’t already do enough for us, the 1/11 Marines asked the City of San Juan Capistrano if they might perform some community service in San Juan as a way of saying “thank you” to the City for its support.  On May 23rd, 125 marines will take part in various community service projects around San Juan Capistrano.  If you see them around town, please thank them for their service.  More details are available in the full press release below:

Marines say “Thank You” to San Juan Capistrano

On May 23rd, the City’s adopted Marines, the Mighty 1st Battalion, 11th Marines (1/11), will be taking part in several community volunteer efforts in an effort to thank the community for the support they have given to the Marines over the past several years.

Earlier this year, the Marines asked the City’s Mayoral Committee what projects they could help with in town in a one day volunteer effort, which will take place on May 23rd. The Marines, 125 of them, will set up their command post at the City’s Community Center and help to paint some areas at the Boys and Girls Club; clean up and plant at the northwest open space and Los Rios Park area; hold a mini physical fitness test and static display for schools that border the Community Center; and clean up the Community Gardens.

Don’t miss out on the 1/11 Marines’ car wash on May 18th.

The City will host a car wash on Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot at the corner of Ortega Highway and El Camino Real near the Camino Real Playhouse to benefit the City’s adopted 1st Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment (1/11).

Community members can get their vehicles washed and help support the Marines by giving a donation in any amount. Proceeds from the daylong event will help fund upcoming programs, events and more for the City’s adopted Marines.

Based out of Camp Pendleton, the 1/11 Marines is a Marine artillery unit with a long and distinguished combat history.  In World War II, the 1/11 Marines saw combat on Guadalcanal, Peleliu and Okinawa.  In Korea, they participated in the Battles of Inchon and Chosin Reservoir.  And the regiment served in Operations Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.
