In 2008, the California Coastal Commission and U.S. Department of Commerce rejected the proposed alignment of the 241 Toll Road that would have connected it to I-5 south of San Clemente. The Transportation Corridor Agencies have now proposed to complete the 241 in segments, with the first segment extending the 241 from its current end-point at Oso Parkway to a new end-point at Cow Camp Road in the Rancho Mission Viejo development. This five and a half mile extension has been dubbed the “Tesoro Extension.” The Patch is now reporting that construction on the 241 Tesoro Extension may begin as early as this summer.
According to the Transportation Corridor Agencies, the Tesoro Extension will feature two lanes in each direction, with a median wide enough for additional lanes or future transit options. If construction begins in 2013, the extension is scheduled to be open to motorists by 2016.
